Trips and Activities
Here are photos of some of our recent trips.
We schedule nine weekend trips during the school year and three one-week long summer camps each summer. In 2004, we added a backpacking Mini-Trek open to all Scouts 1st Class and above. The last Mini-Trek was Saratoga to the Sea, starting at Sanborn Park, hiking over the mountains to the ocean at Waddell Beach. 566 sent a dozen Scouts to the 2005 National Jamboree and a group of six Scouts to went to Philmont in 2006. In 2008, a group went to Sea Base in the Bahamas.
The three week-long summer camps are in different locations with different programs and emphasis.
The troop is boy led. The patrol leaders council chooses the locations and activities.
We try to include three backpacking trips a year (most others are car camping trips), a snow camping trip or ski trip (these alternate),
a beach camping trip, a trip with a bike hike, and a wood fire trip where we cook over open fires.
